October 18, 2016 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” 3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. (Matthew 8:2-3) I read this a few days ago during my quiet time and verse 3 really stuck out to me this time reading it - 'Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man.' Why did Jesus do that? He didn't have to touch him to heal him; read just a few verses down and you have the story of Jesus healing the centurion's servant from afar with just a word. And that's the most striking point: Jesus didn't have to touch the man with leprosy, but he did. The man with leprosy was 'unclean'; he probably had some sort of noticeable skin disease, but it didn't make Jesus distance himself. Instead, Jesus touched him first and then healed him.
